Welcome To My Blog

I am creating this “blog” as a vehicle for sharing my thoughts about issues and conflicts. Like so many, I have become frustrated by our times and I have found myself searching for an artistic constructive outlet.

Through this “blog” I will seek to offer substance more than rants, and welcome your comments and discussion. This project is ongoing and these pages will remain under constant construction as I learn to shape their form and function.

As you will see from the content, I have a passion for progressive politics. I believe that peace is pragmatic. The ways that we approach conflicts matter. Moreover, I am convinced that the ways that we frame and think about what is going on, how parties in conflict relate to one another, and how we as individuals relate to various conflicts, affects the course of history.

Edward R. Murrow, for instance, is one of my heroes. I think that the very concept of not-for-profit television is ingenious. For many years, I have been dreaming of a television network that could be devoted to promoting civic awareness and realistic cultural empathy through journalism and the telling of stories.

I have ideas for programming, and I am seeking to learn new means and methods of developing the ideas and concepts I envision. My vision here is to bring together materials from the history of journalism and popular culture, and to explore frameworks, messages, symbols, icons, and mythologies that pervade major public policy discussions – in particular, those that concern war and peace.

I seek to invoke historical memory and to draw contrasts and correlations between and among today’s events and those of past experience.

To quote, T.S. Eliot:

We shall not cease from exploring
And at the end of our exploration
We will return to where we started
And know the place for the first time.

More than anything else, I hope that you enjoy the time that you spend exploring this project. I have enjoyed creating it.

Peace.
